During the week of March 19, 2023, the Institute provided 11 training opportunities across the State of Louisiana. These trainings were offered in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education and the child care resource and referral agencies throughout Louisiana.
The Institute’s instructors are approved by the Louisiana Pathways Registry and participants earned up to six hours of continuing education credit for attending the training sessions.
The Institute offered two training programs.
Active shooter preparedness for early childhood professionals is the foundational training course designed by the Institute. The course is designed for anyone, in any position, that works in an early childhood setting. The training is designed specifically for early childhood professionals and participants learn evidence based techniques and strategies on how best to prepare for and respond to an active shooter incident.
The Institute also offered a 3-hour tabletop exercise for owners, directors, and others with decision-making authority. The tabletop exercise provided an opportunity for leaders to strengthen problem-solving abilities, re-examine their existing plans, identify gaps, discuss community-level resources, and forge working relationships between different organizations and entities.
